Route and Transport Planning
The route between İncirliova and the Aydın Organised Industrial Zone was evaluated with consideration for residential areas, travel demand, key urban destinations and existing transport networks.
Urban Rail Transport
The Aydın Municipality Light Rail System Project encompasses the transport infrastructure, engineering and implementation works for the Aydın Commuter Rail System, developed in cooperation between Aydın Metropolitan Municipality and the Turkish State Railways.
The first phase of the system, known as AYBAN, provides a fast, safe and comfortable public transport connection between the city centre, hospital, transport hubs and organised industrial zones along a 23.5-kilometre route extending from İncirliova to the Aydın Organised Industrial Zone.
Project Scope
The AYBAN project was addressed through a multidisciplinary approach encompassing the adaptation of existing railway infrastructure to passenger transport requirements, station and access arrangements, system integration and operational safety.
The route between İncirliova and the Aydın Organised Industrial Zone was evaluated with consideration for residential areas, travel demand, key urban destinations and existing transport networks.
Track infrastructure, rail and sleeper systems, turnout connections, drainage solutions and the engineering structures required along the route were addressed in accordance with safe commuter rail operations.
Station areas, platforms, entrances and exits, wayfinding points and waiting areas were planned within a functionally integrated layout to provide passengers with safe and convenient access to trains.
The integration of commuter stations with bus routes, road connections, pedestrian access and other public transport options was evaluated to support seamless journeys.
Signalling, communications, level crossings and traffic control requirements were evaluated alongside operating scenarios to ensure the safe management of train movements.
Project design, on-site implementation, system compatibility and operational readiness processes were coordinated in accordance with the technical requirements of the municipality, TCDD and relevant institutions.
Transport Approach
An effective commuter system creates value not merely by establishing a rail route, but by connecting the city’s residential, healthcare, transport and industrial centres within an accessible network.
KTM Group adopted an integrated engineering approach for the Aydın Municipality Light Rail System Project, evaluating existing railway capabilities alongside urban transport needs. The system supports faster and more comfortable daily journeys, reduced road traffic and improved urban accessibility.
