Rail Freight Logistics Project

Planning safe and efficient station infrastructure for freight transportation.

The Planning and Design of the TCDD Tırmıl Freight Station is a comprehensive railway engineering project undertaken to address freight transportation requirements within the area of responsibility of the TCDD 6th Regional Directorate.

The project evaluates site data, railway tracks, loading and unloading operations, shunting movements, access roads, technical infrastructure and safety requirements through an integrated approach to develop a practical station layout and project framework.

Technical Project Scope

Integrated planning for freight station operations

Tırmıl Freight Station has been planned by evaluating railway traffic, freight handling processes, on-site circulation and technical infrastructure requirements within a unified layout model.

Site and Needs Analysis

Existing site conditions, transport connections, freight transportation needs and operational requirements were examined to identify the data underpinning the station planning process.

Station Layout Plan

Railway tracks, loading and unloading areas, service units, storage areas and vehicle circulation were planned to ensure functional integration.

Track and Turnout Geometry

Track connections, turnout areas and railway geometry were assessed in accordance with technical criteria to ensure the safe execution of train reception, dispatch and shunting movements within the station.

Loading and Shunting Areas

Operational areas were planned for receiving freight trains, uncoupling and assembling wagons, conducting loading and unloading activities, and performing on-site shunting movements.

Railway Superstructure and Technical Infrastructure

Technical requirements relating to railway superstructure, site surfacing, drainage, lighting, power supply, access roads and auxiliary facilities were addressed in accordance with the station’s operational conditions.

Safety and Operational Planning

Operational flows, controlled crossings and safety requirements were evaluated to ensure the safe movement of railway traffic, vehicles and personnel within the site.

Planning Approach

Integrating railway, logistics and site operations within a unified plan

The efficient operation of a freight station depends on the correct geometric configuration of railway tracks, the uninterrupted flow of loading processes and the safe management of different traffic movements within the site.

KTM Group addressed railway engineering and logistics operational requirements within an integrated planning approach for the Tırmıl Freight Station project. This approach supports the efficient use of site capacity and the development of technical infrastructure capable of accommodating future operational requirements.
