Hydroelectric Energy Project

Harnessing the hydroelectric energy potential of Çamlıyayla, Mersin

The AKHAN-1 and AKHAN-2 Regulator and Hydroelectric Power Plant Projects comprise two integrated hydroelectric energy investments under development in the Karageçit area of Çamlıyayla, Mersin.

The projects encompass the assessment of the water resource in accordance with technical and environmental conditions, the planning of the required energy structures and the development of a viable investment model for renewable electricity generation. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies for the projects are ongoing.

Project Scope

An integrated project development process for two hydroelectric investments

The AKHAN-1 and AKHAN-2 projects are being developed through the combined assessment of site characteristics, the energy potential of the water resource, engineering requirements and environmental impacts.

AKHAN-1 Regulator and Hydroelectric Power Plant

Planned in the Karageçit area, the AKHAN-1 project encompasses the regulator and power plant structures required for the controlled intake and conveyance of water and its utilisation for hydroelectric energy generation.

AKHAN-2 Regulator and Hydroelectric Power Plant

The AKHAN-2 project is being developed as a complementary energy investment designed to harness the hydroelectric energy potential of the same region in accordance with technical, economic and environmental criteria.

Site and Resource Assessment

The topographical, geological, hydrological and environmental characteristics of the project site are being examined to evaluate the data required for the positioning of energy structures and the development of engineering solutions.

Regulator and Conveyance Structures

Taking into account the natural flow characteristics of the water resource, technical alternatives for the regulator, water intake structure and conveyance systems are being evaluated in accordance with project requirements.

Hydroelectric Power Plant and Electromechanical Systems

The hydroelectric power plant structures and turbine, generator, control and grid connection systems are being planned in accordance with the projected flow rate and hydraulic head conditions.

Environmental Impact Assessment

As part of the ongoing EIA studies, the projects’ potential impacts on the natural environment, water resources, ecosystems and regional conditions are being assessed, and the necessary protective and mitigating measures are being planned.
