Hydroelectric Energy

Harnessing the energy potential of the Seyhan River through large-scale engineering structures.

The Yedigöze Sani Bey Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant Project is a comprehensive hydroelectric energy investment with an installed capacity of 317 MW, constructed on the Seyhan River approximately 34 kilometres northwest of İmamoğlu, Adana.

Commissioned by Yedigöze Elektrik Üretim A.Ş., the project involved the completion, as the main contractor and with a 100% participation rate, of all construction works other than excavation for the power intake and spillway structures and the penstock support foundations.

Scope of Construction Works

Extensive reinforced-concrete structures for high-flow hydroelectric power generation

The project encompasses the large-scale reinforced-concrete works for the intake, spillway and pressurised conveyance structures serving the power generation system of the concrete-face rockfill dam.

Dam and Hydraulic System

The concrete-face rockfill dam, measuring 105 metres above the thalweg and 131 metres from its foundation, forms the main storage structure that regulates the flow of the Seyhan River and directs it towards power generation.

Power Intake Structure

The structure enabling the controlled intake of reservoir water into the power generation system was constructed using high-strength reinforced concrete, with due consideration for hydraulic loads, maximum design flow and operational safety.

Spillway Structure

The concrete, reinforcement and formwork works for the spillway structure were completed in accordance with the technical project requirements to ensure that floodwaters are discharged downstream in a controlled manner while maintaining dam safety.

Penstock Support Foundations

Reinforced-concrete construction works were completed for the support and anchor foundations that safely transfer the vertical and horizontal loads of the penstocks carrying pressurised water to the power generation units into the ground.

Reinforced-Concrete Works

Approximately 300,000 m³ of concrete was poured, 5,000 tonnes of reinforcing steel were processed, and approximately 82,000 m² of formwork was installed for energy structures featuring a variety of geometries.

Construction and Quality Management

Material procurement, reinforcement and formwork installation, concrete pouring, curing, measurement and quality control activities were coordinated with the intensive site programme and the specific technical requirements of the various structures.

Engineering and Implementation

Coordinated construction management for large-volume reinforced-concrete works

In hydroelectric facilities with high flow rates and hydraulic heads, the reliability of intake, spillway and penstock support structures depends on sound engineering decisions, high-quality reinforced-concrete works and disciplined quality control processes.

KTM Group carried out the construction works for the Yedigöze Sani Bey Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant as the main contractor under a contract signed on 28 January 2009 and completed on 30 December 2010. Large construction volumes, intensive site coordination and the specific technical requirements of hydraulic structures were managed through an integrated implementation approach.
